Jackpot odds vs any-prize odds

Two odds figures answer different questions about the same draw.

Jackpot odds measure the chance that one selection wins the top prize in one draw. Any-prize odds include every qualifying prize tier, often including awards smaller than the ticket price. A better any-prize chance does not mean a better chance of making a profit.

A sourced example

Powerball’s official prize chart lists jackpot odds of 1 in 292,201,338 and overall odds of any prize of 1 in 24.87 for a $2 play. The chart includes $4 lower-tier prizes. These are different questions about the same game and selection.

Compare the two measures on the lottery odds table, then read the Powerball profile for its game and ticket details. Odds can differ between a base game and an add-on.
